This past weekend, the village of Masunga wrote its name into the national history books with a spectacular and emotional homecoming for one of its own, Ruth Thomas, crowned Miss Botswana 2025, and the first-ever Queen to emerge from Masunga. What unfolded was more than a celebration, it was a moment of unity, pride, cultural affirmation, and prophetic fulfillment.

From the thunderous motorcade that swept through the village to the ceremonious gathering at the Masunga Main Kgotla and an inspiring school tour, the celebrations captured the heartbeat of a village rallying behind a daughter who dared to dream.

“We are fortunate to have people who believe in God. Ruth becoming Miss Botswana was prophesied. When I arrived, Kgosi reminded me of a conversation we had 19 years ago about transforming Masunga. Today, he showed me the very walls where change has taken shape. I leave Masunga uplifted, because I know we are a nation moving forward with bold dreams,” shared Benjamin Raletsatsi, Miss World Botswana Director, reflecting on the spiritual and communal meaning of the occasion.

At the heart of the festivities was a clear message: this was not only a crown worn by one woman, but a crown carried by an entire community. Distinguished guests include Kgosi Thabo Maruje III, MmaKgosi Edith Maruje, Kgosi Thabo Monaga, Hon. Councillor Dube and Mrs. Dube, and Assistant District Commissioner Mme Ramotiti all gathered to pay tribute and pledge their continued support throughout Ruth’s reign.
Speaking at the Kgotla, Kgosi Thabo Maruje III said, “We are proud because a Motswana child has done their absolute best, a daughter of this district, a daughter of this nation. Miss Botswana is not just a title, it’s a leadership mantle. Ruth, integrity will take you far. Be a woman who empowers others. You are Botswana’s seed, pray for your country and unify this nation.”
In recognition of Ruth’s extraordinary achievement, the Masunga community showered her with heartfelt and generous gifts, including, a brand new television, two microwaves, a washing machine, an air fryer, a blender and P10,000.00 in cash.

As emotions swelled, Ruth Thomas addressed the crowd with a message of gratitude, humility, and faith:
“You came in multitudes I did not expect. When I saw you during the motorcade, I said ‘God, what have you done?’ This is what I dreamt about three years ago without knowing it would happen to live for something greater than myself, to be a light for my people. This is more than a dream, it is a prophecy fulfilled.”

She continued, “Masunga is a village of big things. When people see me, they will know smart, beautiful women come from here. I invite you to walk with me as we show Botswana what is possible when a village stands behind its daughter. I promise you, the blue crown will return home, and I will wear it on this very podium in honor of God’s grace and your belief in me.”

The Miss Botswana Organization extended its heartfelt appreciation to the people of Masunga for showing the nation how a Queen should be welcomed and honored. “This was more than a homecoming, it was a royal and historic celebration that has set the standard for what it means to stand behind a woman of purpose.”

As Miss Botswana 2025 sets her eyes on the Miss World stage, she does so rooted in the strength, love, and pride of a community that already crowned her long before the judges did.

PULA MASUNGA!
You didn’t just celebrate a Queen—you made history.
