Tlhokomelo Project
Tlhokomelo is a holistic child welfare initiative focused on addressing child neglect through awareness, education, and community involvement. The project centers on restoring a culture of care by equipping children with knowledge of their rights and creating safe spaces for them to speak up.
As part of the initiative, I have developed and distributed a bilingual (English and Setswana) children’s rights booklet designed to educate young learners in an engaging and accessible way. Beyond this, Tlhokomelo is implemented through a structured guardianship programme, bringing together key stakeholders such as social workers, educators, and the Botswana Police Service (Gender & Child Protection Unit) to educate children on neglect, abuse, and reporting mechanisms.
The project also includes a life skills component, Heart & Hands, which empowers children particularly those in special needs units with practical skills such as sewing and knitting, fostering independence and self-worth.
Through these pillars, Tlhokomelo aims to reach over 1,000 children across Botswana in 2026, while building a sustainable, community driven model of child protection.
Magdalene’s Academic Achievement
I am currently in my final year pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the University of Botswana, a journey that has shaped my discipline, resilience, and understanding of impact beyond numbers.
Through my studies, I have come to see that true value is not only measured in figures, but in the lives we touch. This perspective has deeply influenced my Beauty With A Purpose project, Tlhokomelo, where I translate knowledge into purpose by advocating for child welfare, restoring a culture of care, and empowering children with the tools to understand their rights and protect their futures.
My academic path continues to ground me, while my purpose gives it meaning.
