On the 15th, 2024, Miss Botswana 2024, Anicia Gaothusi, made a dazzling appearance at the LUCARA Botswana event, held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). Wearing the iconic centrepiece, the “Akh-Ba-Ka” necklace, Ms. Gaothusi joined an esteemed gathering of dignitaries and international guests. The event, officiated by His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi marked the debut of LUCARA’s “Akh-Ba-Ka” necklace tour, a project spearheaded by world-renowned jeweller Andre Messika.

Ms. Anicia Gaothusi wasn’t the first beauty queen to wear the stunning “Akh-Ba-Ka” necklace, Lesego Chombo, Miss World Africa 2024, proudly wore the piece during the 71st Miss World in India, where she captured the prestigious title. Other global icons, such as supermodel Naomi Campbell, American superstar Kelly Rowland and Portuguese football star Christiano Ronaldo have also had an honor of showcasing this dazzling creation. The necklace, part of Messika’s celebrated “Beyond the Light” collection, is a masterpiece of diamond artistry, representing beauty, elegance and heritage.

Former Miss Botswana queens, played a central role in highlighting Botswana’s connection to diamond excellence. Miss Botswana 2017 Nicole Gaelebale, Miss Botswana 2018 Moitshepi Elias, Miss Botswana 2019 Oweditse Fafah Phirinyane, along with the Miss Botswana 2024 1st Princess Halle Hirshfeld and 2nd Princess Sebaga Manyapetsa, all adorned Messika’s sparkling creations.

Adding to the event’s brilliance, local jewellery designer Mpho Mokgatle, an Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology (OCAAT) graduate, showcased his own collection of stunning pieces. His work was a proud reminder of Botswana’s growing talent in jewellery design and craftsmanship, underscoring the country’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent alongside international partnerships.

The LUCARA Botswana Diamond showcase and the premiere of the “Akh-Ba-Ka” necklace tour brought together a fusion of artistry, luxury and Botswana’s diamond heritage. As the “Akh-Ba-Ka” neckpiece continues its journey across the globe, it stands as a shining example of Botswana’s esteemed place in the diamond industry and the spirit of collaboration and excellence that drives the nation forward.
